Kershaw Blackout, Tanto Blade

Posted by admin on Sep 2nd 2009

Kershaw has a great assisted opener knife called the Blackout. This series is available in either a drop point blade or a tanto blade and can be part serrated or plain edge. The Blackout assisted open knife was one of the very first SpeedSafe knives that Ken Onion produced in collaboration with Kershaw. They still stand as one of the best. The SpeedSafe system is Kershaw’s proprietary spring assist mechanism. The system works with a torsion bar, as the user overcomes the initial resistance of the torsion bar, suddenly, it takes over and opens the knife the rest of the way. It is a great speed assist open mechanism. The Blackout’s blade is coated with a Tungsten DLC. The handles are made of an injection molded polyimide which I think must be code for really comfortable. They feel great in my hand. I think these are fantastic every day carry knives. They are light, durable, and small enough to fit comfortable in your pocket.
