|SOG Vulcan Fixed Blade Knife, VL-51|
SOG makes some really fantastic knives. They are well known for their Seal Pup and Seal Team fixed blade knives—which continue to be extremely popular with those in the armed forces as well as many people who just want a great fixed blade knife. Recently, SOG released their newest fixed blade knife. The SOG Vulcan fixed blade knife comes with either a satin finish or a hardcase TiNi black tactical finish.
I prefer the black tactical finish, but of course, that is just a matter of preference.
One really interesting thing about this knife is the way that SOG worked the three different grind angles–it truly is a masterpiece of engineering and design. The slightly re curved blade gives a great cutting edge and the knife comes unbelievably sharp right out of the box. Built of VG10 steel, you know the blade will maintain a good edge. The blade is full tang which makes for an even more solid knife. Then the handle scales are attached. The handle is comfortable and has plenty of traction with the unique grip pattern that is built into the GRN (Glass Reinforced Nylon) scales. I think this is one of the most functional combat knives to hit the market in a while. SOG markets it to the new militia–an although I am not really sure who that may be, I guess maybe they are talking about me since I am a big fan. Additionally, the Vulcan Fixed Blade comes with a high quality leather sheath to carry it in.
