The SOCP Dagger is a Greg Thompson designed knife. This USA produced knife is the brainchild of Mr. Thompson and springs from his several decades of teaching combatives. In his experience, it was difficult to find a good hand to hand knife and sheath combination that would allow the user to quickly transition from hand to hand combat into hand to knife or hand to gun as well as back again if necessary. To this end, the sheath is completely MOLLE compatible and can be carried in vest straps, a belt, or anywhere else the user desires. In the best position for the individual user, the top of the SOCP is readily accessible and the sheath is securely fastened to the MOLLE webbing. To extract the knife, you simply reach down and insert your forefinger into the oversized ring at the base of the handle. This allows you to fully extract the SOCP dagger and instantly grab it in either a forward or reverse grip. The multiple choils along the handle of the SOCP give you a nice firm grip regardless of how you hold the knife. The base of the ring has serious jimping to give your thumb a very secure position and help keep the knife from slipping when in use.
The SOCP can be purchased with either the knife and the sheath or with a red, unsharpened trainer. This is a serious self defense tool meant specifically for those professionals who serve and whose lives may depend on a readily accessible knife in high intensity close combat situations.
There are a few really good articles on how to use the SOCP dagger from Benchmade. The very best, is logically, a PDF article by Greg Thompson, the SOCP Dagger desginer, on the Benchmade website. You can find the PDF here.
