Kershaw Rogue 2001CKTST

Kershaw has recently released a couple of automatic knives.  The Kershaw Rogue was the first of these two knives.  Made with a part serrated black coated 14C28N  stainless steel blade, the Rogue has incredibly fast action and tight lock up.  The handle is made of 6061 T6 aluminum and has textured rubber inserts that make the knife easy to hold onto regardless of the environment. I really like the safety system on the Rogue.  It is a small slide that is right below the trigger button.  If you slide it up, it collars the trigger button and you are unable to depress the button.  When you slide it down, the button is free for action.  The price on this knife is almost unbelievable.  At $104.00, the Rogue automatic knife is one amazing knife.

Zero Tolerance 0350 Spring Assisted Knife

Zero Tolerance has created some fantastic knives over the past couple of years.  The recently released 0350 spring assisted knife continues the trend of excellence.  Made as a smaller version of the 0300 series, the 0350 has the same aggressive SpeedSafe system that allows you to open the knife with just one hand.  Even if your hands are wearing combat gloves. You open the blade with the large, ambidextrous thumb stud or you open it with the blade protrusion.  Whichever method you choose, the S30V stainless steel blade snaps out fast as soon as you get it going and locks up nice and tight.  The Tungsten DLC (diamond like coating) blade is non-reflective and the coating also enhances hardness and reduces friction.  Enough about the blade.  The handle is made of G-10 scales that are textured and matte-black.  They are comfortable and make the knife a pleasure to hold and use. The pocket clip position is completely customizable–right or left and tip up or down.  All in all, the Zero Tolerance 0350 spring assisted knife is definitely one to own.

Blade: S30V stainless-steel, Titanium DLC Coat, Plain Edge
Handle: 3D machined G-10 and Titanium

Kershaw Breakout Auto Knife

Looking for an ultra-thin auto knife?  You may be in luck.  Kershaw just released their Breakout Automatic Knife.  The Specs on the Breakout are as follows:

Handle: CNC-machined aluminum
Blade Length: 3-1/2 in.
Closed Length: 4 -1/2 in.
Overall:  7.9″

This auto knife has great style, with a spider web groove pattern in the handle, and a reversible pocket clip (front or back), the action on the Breakout is fast and the lock up is tight.  At this price, Kershaw is setting new standards for USA made automatic knives.

Auto-Tek and Ultra-Tek Blade Sharpeners

Kershaw recently came out with two field sharpeners that are worth mention.  The first, the Auto-Tek, opens and closes with a switch.  Hence, it is eseentially, an auto opening sharpener.  The Ultra-Tek opens by unscrewing the cap and then reversing it so the sharpener is out of the handle and screwing it back on that way.  Both of these sharpeners are great–if you think of them as field sharpeners or as honing sharpeners.  If you are looking for the full deal, you would be better off going with a different sharpener.  But, if you want something small to throw in your gear bag–either of these are great.  They do a good job of getting the edge back on your blade and are perfect for when you are out working, camping, or just having fun in the wilderness.  Out of the two, even though the Auto-Tek is much more fun (because it opens and closes like an automatic knife) I think the Ultra-Tek wins because it seems just a little bit more durable.  I am hard on gear and want something that won’t give me any problems.  Even though I prefer an OTF knife or a side open automatic knife, when it comes to a sharpener, I want simple and basic.  That is why I prefer the Ultra-Tek.
