ProTech Sprint Automatic Knife — Snapshot Review

Blue ProTech Sprint
Blue ProTech Sprint automatic knife

The ProTech Sprint auto knife has been delighting users for several years now.  Built with a Cali-Legal sized 1.94″ blade, the push button auto snaps open with serious authority. There are several things about the Sprint series that make the knife absolutely fantastic.  First, the 6061 T6 aluminum handle frame is thin.  By thin, I mean amazingly thin.  It measures just 3/8″ thick which makes it one of the slimmest auto knives you can find on the market.  Second, because it is a ProTech, it is built with some serious attention to detail.  The seams, edges and finish of this knife is extraordinary.  Third, the Sprint is fantastic because it gives you a knife blade you can depend on for serious every day cutting.  This will do more than just open your mail and the occasional package.  This knife is built tough enough to cut nearly whatever you need to cut. LionSteel Daghetta Folding Knife Review — Snapshot Review

LionSteel 8701AL Daghetta
LionSteel 8701AL Daghetta

The LionSteel Daghetta knife features all the charm and class of an “old school” Italian folder along with the quality construction and materials you would expect from a modern knife.  Available in either a satin finish (the 8700 series) or a PTFE black finish (the 8701 series), the Daghetta boasts a D2 blade that opens with ambidextrous thumb studs.

The Daghetta comes from the historical “Dagha” knife that was often used by the military. Originally a dagger or a dirk, the Daghetta has been created as a folding alternative to the classic fixed blade knife.  The handle is available in carbon fiber, black anodized aluminum as well as G10.  Machined with CNC precision, these handles provide a comfortable, secure grip for serious knife work.  The blade, once open, locks into place with the LionSteel TOL (Tactical Operation Lock System) which keeps the blade securely open so that the knife blade doesn’t close up on your hand during heavy cuts.

The pocket clip is easily reversible right/left so that the knife is perfect for right or left hand users.  It is a tip up clip.

I love the style and grace of this knife.  It has classic Italian lines combined with the quality machining and precision you expect from a LionSteel knife.  If you are looking for a great every day carry knife that is built with you in mind, check out the Daghetta series.

Brous Blades Silent Soldier Gen 3 Flipper Knife Review — Snapshot Review

Brous Blades Silent Soldier 3
Brous Blades Silent Soldier 3 with acid stonewash finish.

Brous Blades has just released their 3rd Generation Silent Soldier flipper knives.  This popular flipper boasts a D2 tool steel blade with a high utility Wharncliffe blade style.  The blade has a double swedge, aggressive thumb jimping on the spine, and a 7/8″ finger hole so you can control the blade however you decide to hold it.  The blade opens ultra smooth on a ball bearing system.  Lock up is tight–just like you would expect from one of Jason Brous’ blades.  The handle is built from skeletonized stainless steel liners with scales of twill weave carbon fiber.  The stainless steel spacer has the BROUS BLADES stamp on it. Each knife bears an individual serial number from 1 to 500 on the inside edge of the back spacer.   Deep carry pocket clip.  The knife comes in a great hard snap case with padded interior.  This is a top quality, collector grade knife.

The great thing about Brous Blades is although they exhibit collector grade quality, they are built for heavy use–if that is what you are looking for.  Each one is built from the very best materials and with an attention to detail that is seldom found in any product.  The D2 blade is going to take a great edge.  And it will keep that edge under hard and heavy use.  The handle is built for comfort and control.  Based on the geometry and style of the handle, this little flipper knife is designed so that you can hold it in a variety of positions–depending on your intended use.  A fantastic defensive tool, the Gen 3 Silent Soldier is also the kind of EDC that is going to look good wherever you happen to be.  Check them out here on our website.  Let me know what you think of yours down below.

Kershaw G10 Cryo Assist Knife Review– Snapshot Review

Kershaw G10 Cryo Assist
Kershaw G10 Cryo Assist

The much anticipated Kershaw Cryo assist knife with a G10 handle scale is finally here.  Built just like the earlier Cryo knives, this Rick Hinderer classic opens fast and locks up tight via a sturdy framelock.  The newest Cryo boasts a stonewash finished blade, a G10 handle scale on the front and a stainless steel back scale.

The Cryo has been delighting knife lovers for over two years.  With incredibly fast action, this knife uses the very dependable SpeedSafe® assist mechanism from Kershaw.  The blade opens with a slight pull on the flipper.  If you prefer, you can use either of the dual thumbstuds as well.  Once started, the assist mechanism takes charge and snaps the blade out with speed and authority.  Lock up is very tight with absolutely no movement in the blade once open.

The handle has a G10 front scale.  Jimping on the spine and inside edge of the handle create traction spots so you keep a solid grip on the handle even when bearing down on a cut.  The black G10 front scale adds even more traction and makes for a solid grip no matter what the conditions–wet, slippery, cold, etc.

If you love class and style in a dependable package you are going to love the Cryo.  This is the Hinderer knife built at a price you just can’t afford to ignore.  Get yours here on our website and let us know what you think of it down below.

Smith & Wesson Military & Police 2 Assist Knife Review — Snapshot Review

Smith & Wesson MP2
Smith & Wesson Military & Police 2 Assist Knife

Today’s review is a blast from the past.  The SWMP2 spring assist knife features the MAGIC assist system.  MAGIC (Multipurpose Assisted Generational Innovative Cutlery) uses a spine trigger that when pulled activates the blade.  The blade snaps out extremely fast. The handle is built form 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum.

This knife was originally built with three different variations.  The 1, the 2 and the 3.  The difference between the 1,2 and 3 series was in the handle and blade shape.   Each number in the series had several blade styles and finishes available as well as a few different color handles available–which meant there were around 20 different variations in the first three knives of the series.  Part of the Military & Police line from Smith & Wesson, these knives are built with the modern warrior in mind.  Tough, durable and easy to use are top requirements–and the SWMP2 definitely fits the bill.

The stainless steel blade boasts a unique reverse tanto blade style with a “rhino” bend in the blade.  The unique shape allows you to get a good angle with extra leverage on certain push cuts.  The reverse tanto shape gives you maximum strength at the tip of the blade because the spine stays thick nearly to the end of the blade.  The blade is easy to sharpen and keeps a good edge.  I used mine heavily for three months and needed to sharpen it twice during that period of time.  To sharpen, I use a Spyderco Sharpmaker and was able to get a great edge on the blade each time.

The blade locks open with a very solid liner lock.  Closing the knife is a two hand affair with one hand depressing the liner lock and the other pushing the blade closed.  As you bring the blade nearly to the closed position, you can feel the spring begin to compress.  Not difficult to close, but it is interesting how strong the spring really is.

The handle has loads of texture including several slanted grooves and ridges as well as six “wave scallops” in the opposite direction which keep your hand from slipping when things get wet and slippery.  The butt of the handle has a small glass breaker which will definitely get the job done.  On the front of the handle a slide safety keeps the blade from opening or closing when engaged.  When it is “live” the safety shows a red dot.  The right handed tip up pocket clip is removable if you prefer no clip.  The handle is relatively slim which means it doesn’t hog up tons of pocket real estate™.

This is a durable, well built assist knife with great action.  Solid materials and good construction means this knife will perform under the harshest of conditions.  Find your SWMP2 here on our site and let me know what you think of yours down below.

Cold Steel Laredo Bowie Knife Review — Snapshot Review

Cold Steel Laredo Bowie
Cold Steel Laredo Bowie, Model 39LLBT

The Cold Steel Laredo Bowie gives you serious cutting power.  Built along classic Bowie lines, this knife features a 10 1/2″ high carbon steel blade.  The long blade is built for heavy use.

What is so great about a bowie blade you ask?  The bowie serves multiple functions thereby eliminating your need to carry several knives.  An ideal outdoorsman knife, the bowie has a piercing point that is designed to penetrate like nobody’s business. The guard prevents your hand from slipping up the handle onto the blade.  The weight of the blade gives you all the ability to make serious chopping cuts.  So the knife doubles as a small hatchet or machete.   But if you need to, you can hold the spine of the blade with your off hand while choking up on the handle with your other hand to make fine cuts.  The extra wide blade makes for an extremely strong and tough blade.   The Cold Steel Laredo Bowie fulfills all these needs and many more.

It boasts a specially contoured faux cocobolo handle that feels great in the hand.  The knife comes with a leather sheath.  If you have never owned a bowie knife, the Cold Steel Laredo is a fantastic first choice.  Find it on our website here.  Tell me your favorite Bowie Knife story down below.

Benchmade HK Plan D 14125BK Fixed Blade Knife Review — SnapShot Review

Benchmade 14125BK Plan D
Benchmade 14125BK Plan D Fixed Blade Knife

The Benchmade HK Plan D fixed blade knife is built for serious use as a back up knife for LE, military and anyone who needs a solid self defense tool.  When Plan A, Plan B and Plan C go awry, what do you do?  With this knife you have a Plan D in place.  The N680 stainless steel plain edge Wharncliffe blade gives you all the advantages of strength that a normal tanto blade imparts along with  a longer blade edge so you don’t have a shortened cutting edge.  The blade sits at about a 45 degree angle off normal straight so when you hold the blade in a standard grip you actually have the blade pointing forward instead of up or down.  This gives you a reach advantage without making you contort your hand into all kinds of strange angles.  A serious finger choil allows you a solid grip on the blade at all times reducing the chance you lose your tool in the heat of the moment.  The contoured Grivory handle scales boast the signature HK texture so you have a secure grip in whatever conditions you find yourself.  Comes with a low profile, molded Kydex sheath that is designed specifically to fit duty belts.  The Plan D can be found on our website here.
