TOPS Overlander 2 Knife Review

Posted by admin on Mar 11th 2015

The brand new TOPS Overlander 2 fixed blade knife delivers a no nonsense cutting tool that will breeze through the outdoor cutting chores you encounter during your adventures.  Built with a classic drop point 1095 high carbon alloy blade, the Overlander 2 boasts ergonomic handle scales of oiled tan canvas Micarta.  The original TOPS Overlander knife received overwhelmingly positive response from outdoorsmen and military alike, this new iteration delivers an improved platform that will serve you well hunting, camping, fishing, hiking or in tactical situations.

Following is a short video produced by TOPS describing the knife.

The Overlander 2 blade is 1095 high carbon alloy.  1095 is a commonly used steel for bushcraft style knife because it delivers high toughness and is easy to sharpen.  With a proper heat treat, 1095 is often considered better than nearly every other steel aside from the most exotic and expensive stainless steels.  The benefit to you is cost.  Because 1095 isn’t overly expensive to procure and work, the cost of the Overlander 2 has an MSRP of $150 but you can pick it up on our site for just under $110.

The full tang blade is complemented with two scales of oiled Tan Canvas Micarta.  These scales are a bit thinner than the original version which makes the Overlander 2 more comfortable for long periods of use–ideal for use in the outdoors where, depending on your circumstances, you may need to use the blade for some serious cutting sessions.  The scales have three pronounced bumps and two valleys between them giving your hand a very secure grip.  At the base of the handle is a slot hole for a lanyard or carry strap.

With a lanyard, your blade security is even more high. The knife also comes with a Kydex sheath which features a rotating steel spring clip.  If you remove the clip, you can easily stash the knife just about anywhere.  With the clip, you can attach it to your belt or a pack strap in basically any carry direction you prefer.

An ideal outdoor knife, the Overlander 2 has a 4″ blade that will get you through your adventures with a smile on your face.  If you want a no nonsense knife stripped down to the essentials for heavy use outdoors and in tactical situations, the Overlander 2 is a great choice.  After you pick one up, let me know what you think of yours down below.
